Client:
A Global Healthcare Company
Summary
A global healthcare company with worldwide
business units sought to improve the standardization
of its laptop computers across business
units. The customer's parent company mandated
that Microsoft ® Windows ® 2000
Professional be utilized as the standard
operating system for laptops across business
units.
Business Challenge
To avoid the cost of flying its technical
team across the world to perform the migration,
the company sought the assistance of a national
service provider experienced with the Windows
2000 platform to facilitate several stages
of the migration. The first phase of the
project would entail the conversion of laptop
computers within the U.S. from Windows ®
95 to Windows 2000 Professional.
How Allegis Group
Helped
Allegis Group provided numerous technical
resources to successfully migrate the customer's
laptop operating system. Allegis Group deployed
a senior project manager to work closely
with the company's team to define the scope
of the project as well as supply a detailed
plan and schedule for the migration. The
project manager, working with our team of
technicians, survey technicians and team
leaders, established a centralised staging
area to collect the laptop computers that
were subsequently upgraded to Windows 2000
Professional with user data and applications
reloaded over three consecutive weekends.
Utilising Allegis Group’s proven
migration methodology and end-to-end project
management, the migration to Windows 2000
Professional was accomplished on time and
within budget, allowing the customer to
remain focused on business critical functions.
The company was able to significantly reduce
project costs by having Allegis Group upgrade
the machines locally rather than incurring
the cost of flying their own technicians
around the globe to perform the project.
Within four months of the upgrade, the customer
experienced an increase in end-user productivity,
which contributed to a quicker return on
investment.
